Carla Wilhite, OTD, OTR/L, FAOTA

Carla Wilhite is a creative working as an occupational therapy educator. With strong interests and experience in the area of instructional technology and learning design, ubiquitous learning, and design thinking, she is available for consulting to educational systems and programs desiring to implement cutting edge curricular design into educational programs.

What I Do

Work with faculty teams to revise curricular methods to accommodate learning technologies and strategies

Discuss application of virtuality to the occupational therapy rehabilitation process

Introduce the concepts of learning affordances into the teaching and learning process

Inculcate creativity as a learning strategy

Assistant Professor
(2013-2021)
Faculty member of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine Occupational Therapy Graduate Program. Core achievements in re-designing courses using subject-centered methods, flipping the classroom, teaching 3-D printing and scanning, use of virtual reality rehabilitation. On winning team of a healthcare hackathon. Worked with instructional support staff in upgrading classroom teaching technology.

Assistant Professor
(2006-2012)
Faculty member of the University of North Dakota-Casper Occupational Therapy Graduate Program. Intramural grants to increase learning technologies, redesign course in ergonomics and human productivity, teach assistive technology related courses, and introduce problem-based learning methods.

Interests
Photography, visual arts, book-making, painting and drawing, universal design/universal experience, virtual reality, ubiquitous learning, 3-D printing and scanning, hacking daily living solutions.
